    Dear students, I welcome you to the course Contemporary Affairs: Bangladesh and the World. This is a course that will make us know about the current affairs of Bangladesh and the globe. We will explore different areas of the current contemporary issues in the world and Bangladesh.

    Course Objectives: After completing this course, the students will be able to:

    • Apprehend major incidents and crises in the modern world including Bangladesh
    • Demonstrate analytical ability on the current issues in national and international politics, economy, trade, environment, health, and armed conflicts.

    Welcome to the course

    Contemporary Affairs: Bangladesh and the World




    Course Description:

    This course is designed to shed light on the following areas: Recent development on the political, social, economic and cultural issues and crises in Bangladesh and the world. The course contents thus may change on the basis priorities as the time demands. 

    Course Objectives: 

    After completing this course, the students will be able to understand major issues in the modern world and Bangladesh and develop critical view of issues that affect both local and global politics, economy, trade, environment and health. The students will be expected to write or produce analytical pieces on the current issues for mass media.  

  • The WWI & WWII

    Global Politics started from WWI and WWII. Before going to the local and national politics, we have to understand these two major global events.

    In this lecture we will understand:
    * How the global politics started from colonialism to nationalism.
    * How the world got divided into parts.
    * Why the new dimensions of post colonialism were needed.

    Lecture 01

    Politics in Contemporary Bangladesh


    Lecture objective

    This lecture is to have a look at the historical issues of the country's politics and evolving of the present after the nation's Independence. This will give you clear insights into characteristics of the country's politics, political parties and civil-military bureaucracy.

    Lecture outcome

    After the lesson, you will be able better understand the current political issues in Bangladesh and their historical backgrounds. It will develop your critical minds and make more able to analyze the happenings around the country's politics.

    This lesson will give an introduction to the current affairs in the country's economy. It will discuss major developments in agriculture and industry. The lesson will also explore the challenges and potential in the Bangladesh economic development.

    Climate Change and Bangladesh 


    Learning Objectives and Outcome

    This lesson will explore the current environmental concerns and challenges in Bangladesh. It will also assess the threats of global warming and climate change to the country and its people. This will explore the major areas that the country needs to focus. After the lesson, the students will be able analyse the major environment issues for the country.

    Population growth in Bangladesh


    Lesson Objectives and Outcome

    This lesson will explore the problems of population growth and controls in the country. It will also discuss the education, problem of illiteracy and creating skilled human power. The lesson will explore the challenges in poverty reduction in Bangladesh. After the lesson, the lessons will have critical knowledge about the problems in population growth, education section and poverty reduction programs in Bangladesh.

    Bangladesh and its capital


    Lesson objective and outcome

    This lesson will explore the centralization problems in Bangladesh. It will especially focus the pressures of centralization on the capital Dhaka. The lesson will explore different strategies to decentralize and its possible implications on the society and the economy. After the lesson, the students will have the ability to analyze and critically view the problems and the possible solutions.

    Rohingya Crisis and Bangladesh


    Lesson Objectives and Outcome

    This will lesson will discuss the Rohingya crisis and its relation with Bangladesh. It will explore the economic and security threats the cisis is posing to the country. After the lesson, the students will have knowledge about the origins of Rohingya crisis, current threats for Bangladesh and the global role in the problem.

    Kashmir Conflict

    This lecture aims to discuss the historic conflicts over a territory "Kashmir" between two neighboring South Asian countries India and Pakistan. It will explore the origins of the conflict, wars surrounding it and relations between two nations. After this, the students are expected to write and report on the issue for mass media outlets.
