1. Formalism

• It is an interpretive approach which emphasizes literary form and literary devices within the text.

• It is designated to indicate a break with traditional method.

• It is an interpretive tool that help us think more deeply and insightfully about literature while we read something.

 

2. Structuralism

• It is an approach which analyzes the narrative material by examining the underlying invariant structure

• It mainly focuses on the conditions that make meaning possible rather than the meaning itself.

• It seeks out the basic deep elements in stories and myths.

 

3. Liberal Humanism

• It is a literary theory that was popular at the end of the 1800 and the beginning of the 1900.

• It reveals a constant or universal truth about humanity.

• It understands literature to be timeless.

 

4. Deconstruction

• It multiples meanings indefinitely.

• It may show us how a text can be misread and what is excluded or suppressed in a text.

• It seems ridiculous but actually can create more creative and careful writer and reader.

 

5. New Historicism

• It influences the readers by their culture, so no objective reading of a work is possible.

• If affects their interpretation of the historical influence on a work.

• Prevailing social mores and political ideologies to infer the societal elements, it influences the author in the creation of work.
