From the sessions of this course, I have gained knowledge about the concept of theory and literary theory. I have learn about several literary theories. 

Among them, I am going to describe random five.


1) Liberal Humanism :


-According to liberal humanism, good literature is of timeless significance. 

- This theory says that human nature is unchanging.

-According to this theory, the text reveals constants and universal truth about human nature.


2) Formalism : 


- This theory is an interpretive approach that emphasizes the study of form and literary devices in the text.

- This theory says that author or context isn't essential. Only the narrative is necessary.

-Formalists focus on the study of poetic language.


3) New criticism :


-It explores the "world" within the text. 

-This theory says that readers have not to be familiar with historical context.

-According to this theory, readers do not have to know about the background of the author to read a text.


4) Deconstruction :


-This theory shows that a literary work is self-contradictory.

- This theory invites us to unravel constructs around us and to re-examine appearance and reality as well.

- People may have different interpretations of the text or art.


5) Marxism :


- This is the literary theory which deals with the clash between class.

- According to this theory, art reflects the age in which it was created.

- It is an articulation of the dominant class.
