These are some theories that I have learned from my previous classes.
Liberal Humanism :
1. Literature has to be timeless and it reveals the universal truth about humanity.
2. It believes that the world can be controlled & ordered.
3. It is based on the nature of man and its defects in society. Its main focus on literature and the study of man is the specialty of liberal humanism.
4. The literary text contains Its own meaning within itself.
New Criticism :
1. This theory takes a text as an autonomous object, non-related to the author, the culture.
2. The method of New Criticism focuses on a close reading of rhythm, Theme, Imagery, etc
3. New Critics believed the structure and meaning of the text were intimately connected and should not be analyzed separately.
.Post Structuralism :
1. Post-structuralism is a term for philosophical, theoretical and literary forms of theory that both build upon and reject ideas established by structuralism.
2. Rejection of the self-sufficiency of structuralism,
3. Post-structuralism means to go beyond the structuralism of theories that imply a rigid inner logic to relationships
4. Post structuralism builds on the insights of structuralism, it holds all meaning to be fluid rather than universal and predictable.
Structuralism
1. Interpret literature with underlying meanings.
2. Analyze a text relating it to some larger containing structure.
3. A structuralist approach may study activities as diverse as food-preparation and serving rituals, religious rites, games, literary and non-literary texts,
Feminist criticism
1. Feminist critics argue that women's oppression has gone on for ages in patriarchal cultures
2. Formalism approach reduces the importance of a text's historical, biographical, and cultural context.
3. Specific goals of feminist criticism include both the development and discovery of female tradition of writing, and rediscovering of old texts,
