The encoder is important because Computers can only process information represented with numbers. Encoding is a required pre-processing step when working with categorical data for machine learning algorithms.

Encoding keeps your data safe since the files are not readable unless you have access to the algorithms used to encode them. It also removes redundancies from data. The size of your files will be a lot smaller.
