Scanning

Scanning is a reading technique aimed at finding specific information quickly. Readers move their eyes rapidly over the text to locate keywords, phrases, or specific data without reading every word.

Example :

Imagine you're looking at a TV guide, trying to find what time your favorite show is on.

-You don’t read the entire guide. Instead, you scan the list for the title of your show, ignoring other details.

-Once you find it, you focus on the time listed next to it.

Skimming

Skimming is a reading technique used to get the general idea of a text. Readers glance quickly over headings, subheadings, and the first sentences of paragraphs to capture the main ideas without focusing on details.

Example :

Suppose you pick up a magazine and want to get a quick idea of what an article is about.

-You don’t read the entire article. Instead, you look at the title, glance at the pictures, and read a few headlines or the first sentences of paragraphs.

-This gives you a general sense of the topic, like whether the article is about healthy eating or travel tips.
