Scanning and skimming are two techniques used for efficient reading and information retrieval.

Scanning :

Scanning involves quickly searching through text to find specific information. For example:

1. Finding a phone number in a directory: When looking through a phone book or online directory, you scan the pages for the name of a person or business to find their contact details.

2. Locating a specific event in a calendar: If you need to find out if a particular event is happening on a specific date, you scan the calendar for that date and event details.

Skimming:

Skimming involves reading a text quickly to get a general idea of its content or main points without focusing on every word. For example:

1. Reading a newspaper article: To understand the gist of the article, you might skim through the headlines, subheadings, and the first and last paragraphs.

2. Reviewing a book chapter: When preparing for a discussion or exam, you might skim through the chapter by reading the introduction, headings, and conclusion to grasp the main ideas without reading every detail.
