Scanning is a reading technique used to find specific information quickly without reading every word. 

Example 1: Looking for a specific date in a historical document. You would glance over the text to locate the relevant section.

Example 2: Searching for a keyword in a research article. You quickly move your eyes across the text until you find the term.

Skimming involves reading rapidly to get a general idea of the content. 

Example 1: Browsing through a news article to grasp the main points without diving into details.

Example 2: Previewing a chapter in a textbook by reading headings, subheadings, and the first sentence of each paragraph to understand the overall topic.
