Example 1: Looking for a phone number in a contact list. You quickly move your eyes over the names until you find the one you need.

Skimming

Skimming is reading rapidly to get a general idea of the content.

Example 1: Glancing over a newspaper article to understand the main points. You read the headline, subheadings, and the first sentence of each paragraph.
