Scanning is a reading technique in which a reader scans the page with their eyes in order to find specific information.

Example:

1.A recipe book: You're looking for a recipe for apple pie. You quickly scan the index for "apple pie" and then turn to the corresponding page.

2.A news article: You want to find out the date of a recent natural disaster. You scan the article for keywords like "earthquake," "hurricane," or "tsunami," and then look for the specific date

Skimming is a reading technique in which a reader reads through the text quickly to see what it is about.

Example:

1.A textbook chapter: Before reading a chapter on photosynthesis, you skim through the headings, subheadings, and opening paragraphs to get a general idea of the key concepts.

2.A magazine article: You're interested in learning about the latest trends in fashion. You skim through the article, focusing on the images and captions, to get a quick overview of the styles.
