Scanning: It is a reading technique used to search some particular or desired topic or information. In this technique the reader glances through a text in search of the desired topic by searching a keyword. In this technique reader does not read the whole text properly.

Example: Searching word from dictionary, Scanning the newspaper for a specific issue etc.

Skimming: It is a reading technique where the reader reads the heading or beginning and the ending of a text to get a general idea of the text without properly reading the whole text. The reader can also read some of the keywords or lines from middle for better idea.

Example: Skimming through a chapter or passage of a story book or novel to get a rough idea before reading properly. We can also skim some story books to decide which story to read or which book to buy.
