Introduction: This course concentrates on the analysis and study of
poetry and its forms. Course content includes, but is not necessarily
restricted to, the study of diction, imagery, figurative language, rhythm, and
sounds of poetry as demonstrated in both traditional and non-traditional forms
and styles. The course also covers themes, concerns, and attitudes of poetry.
Objectives: This course intends to familiarize students with
English poetry. By the end of this course, the students are expected to be able
to define poetry as a form of writing or literature. They will be able to
interpret the complexity of poetry and discuss its different parts. They will
identify different forms of poetry and comment on the qualities of any given
poem by applying criticism and appreciation they have acquired in this course.
