For this purpose, this course is designed to assist students in learning various IT tools and techniques which are available for efficient and effective management of any organization whether public or private, for-profit, or not-for-profit, manufacturing or service types in nature. They will also be taught how these can be utilized for success. Students will learn the terminology used in the field of IT and how IT principles can apply to businesses. The course stresses the competitive advantage of using IT and the return of investing in it. It focuses on the basic principles of information systems: basic ideas of IS e.g., transaction processing system (TPS), management information systems (MIS), decision support systems (DSS), artificial intelligence (AI), executive support systems (ESS), expert systems (ES), and communication, and collaboration systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP), digital firm, the impact of IS in the organization, the ethical and societal issues involved in IT, e-commerce, database technology, telecommunications and networking, systems development and implementation, security concepts etc.
