Answer: Glucose is polyhydric alcohol because glucose contains five hydroxy(-OH) groups.

Glucose is a pentahydroxy aldehyde. Its herniacetal with one of its own alcohol groups is stable, in contrast to most herniacetals. In fact, glucose exists mainly (> 99.9 percent) in the glucopyranose form, a cyclic hemiacetal.
