A hydrocarbon is an organic compound consisting entirely of hydrogen(H) and carbon(C). They can be gases (methane), liquids (benzene), waxes or low melting solids (paraffin wax and naphthalene) or polymers (polyethylene, polypropylene). They are generally colourless and hydrophobic with only weak odours.
