The AHU is a large metal box containing separate ventilators for supply and exhaust, heating coil, cooling coil, heating/cooling recovery system, air filter racks or chambers, sound attenuators, mixing chamber, and dampers.

Air Handling Unit (AHU) Components:
1) Weather louver: To prevent insects, leaves, dirt and rain from entering
2) Flow rate controller: Automated adjustment of volume of air
3) Control damper: Fixed adjustment of volume of air
4) Heating unit: To heat the air to the proper temperature
5) Cooling unit/dehumidifier: To cool the air to the required temperature or to remove moisture from the air
6) Humidifier: To bring the air to the proper humidity, if too low
7) Filters: To eliminate particles of pre-determined dimensions and micro-organism
8) Ducts: To transport the air

Air Handling Unit (AHU) Characteristics:
An Air Handling Unit (AHU) is used to re-condition and circulate air as part of a heating, ventilating and air-conditioning system. The basic function of the AHU is to take in outside air, re-condition it and supply it as fresh air to a building.

characteristics of AHU:-
Outdoor airflow rate, building static pressure, and supply-air-duct static pressure, as controlled variables, are maintained by modulating the speed of the supply and return fans and the position of the outdoor, recirculating, and relief-air dampers in an air-handling unit (AHU).

Characteristics of AHU:
The panel is double skin. External surface panel is high grade electrolytic plate whose surface is sprayed plastic. Internal surface is galvanized steel sheet. Thermal insulation materials is polyurethane foam with density 40kg/m3.

The design of an air handling unit (AHU) within an HVAC system is dependent on the specific project requirements, as well as the designer’s approach to design, experience level, knowledge of code-driven requirements and standard practices, and the ability to communicate the design intent clearly through the preparation of plans and specifications.
