From the introductory sessions, we have learned a lot of theories in brief.  Our course teacher introduced all these theories to us in such a way that we became very eager to learn all of these theories in detail.

Now I am going to mention three main points related to the definition and characteristics of five important theories.

1.Liberal Humanism:

a)Consider the significance of literature as timeless.

b)Study the text in isolation.

c)Imply the ruling assumptions as well as class distinctions.

2.Deconstruction:

a)Thinking about the text in a fragmented way as meaning is not constant.

b)Disagreeing with the existing norms and creating own meaning.

c)Self-contradictory

3.Ecocriticism

a)Questining the relationship between nature and literature.

b)An earth centered approach to literary study.

c)Influence of nature in the literary text.

4.Feminist Criticism:

a)Concerned with impact of gender on writing and reading

b)Desire for a new literary canon (not men

C)Deals with conflicts between often dominate male and inferior female in traditional literature

5.Marxism:

a)Sees art and literature as forced by the conditions that existed in history

b)Deals with clash between classes

c)Articulation of dominant class
