Theory : Literary theory is the body of ideas and methods we use in the
practical reading of literature.
Here are the
3 main points of 5 important literary theories which are mentioned below:
1 Liberal
Humanism
* Good
literature is timeless, transcendent and speaks to what is constant in human
nature.
* Human
nature unchanging—continuity valued over innovation.
* Purpose of
literature to enhance life in a non-programmatic way.
2. Formalism:
* Formalism
is an interpretive approach that emphasized literary form and the literary
devices or figure of speeches withing the text.
* According
to formalism, author or the context isn't necessary to know. Only the narrative
is essential.
* This theory
focuses on the study of poetic language.
3.Post-structuralism:
*rebellion
against structuralism.
*text
understood by isolation
*not going
through the broaden sense of the meaning of texts.
4. Deconstruction:
*multiple layers of meaning.
*self-contradictory
literary work.
*applied form of post-structuralism and
introduced by Roland Barthes.
5. Marxism:
* Karl Marx
perceived human history to have consisted of a series of struggles between
classes--between the oppressed and the oppressing ("the haves" and
"the have-nots").
* Marx
thought that materialism was the ultimate driving force in history.
* Feudalism
exploits workers to the point of revolt.
