Literary Theory : Literary theory is the body of ideas and methods we use in the practical reading of literature.

Here are the 3 main points of 5 important literary theories which are mentioned below:

1 Liberal Humanism

 * Good literature is timeless, transcendent and speaks to what is constant in human nature.

 * Human nature unchanging—continuity valued over innovation.

* Purpose of literature to enhance life in a non-programmatic way.

2. Formalism:

* Formalism is an interpretive approach that emphasized literary form and the literary devices or figure of speeches withing the text.

* According to formalism, author or the context isn't necessary to know. Only the narrative is essential.

* This theory focuses on the study of poetic language.

 3.Post-structuralism:

*rebellion against structuralism.

*text understood by isolation

*not going through the broaden sense of the meaning of texts.

4. Deconstruction:

  *multiple layers of meaning.

*self-contradictory literary work.

*applied form of post-structuralism and introduced by Roland Barthes.

5. Marxism:

* Karl Marx perceived human history to have consisted of a series of struggles between classes--between the oppressed and the oppressing ("the haves" and "the have-nots").

* Marx thought that materialism was the ultimate driving force in history.

* Feudalism exploits workers to the point of revolt.
