It is a heterogeneous catalyst that consists of palladium deposited on calcium carbonate or barium sulfate which is then poisoned with various forms of lead.

It is partially inert palladised charcoal. This palladised charcoal is treated with sulphur compound or quinoline like poisonous compound and made it inert. It is used to have partial reduction of alkyne comopunds and form cis-alkene.
