Topic: Impact on maternal and neonatal healthcare services
in Bangladesh due to Covid-19
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an
enormous shift in the global and national landscape in terms of everyday
well-being. Many countries had to decide for complete or partial lockdown to
control the spread of the disease. Which has somehow decreased the particular
infection but many other health aspects were hugely affected by this
restriction. One of the unavoidable condition is pregnancy and childbirth. Concerns
are growing that COVID-19 will disrupt health-care delivery, particularly for
maternal and newborn health services, especially in resource-poor countries.
Design and methods: The global response to the COVID-19
pandemic is affecting maternal and neonatal health services. This research is
going to assess the number of institutional births, their outcomes
(institutional stillbirth and neonatal mortality rate), and the quality of
intrapartum care in 3 different hospitals in Dhaka city. A written questionnaire
is going to administer to the nurses and patients as the primary source of data
collection. Hospital records is going to provide the secondary source of data
to collect the information during lockdown services.
Results: Researcher strongly feels that the findings of this
research is going to present a clear picture about the impact of the crisis on
maternal and newborn health services. The results can be also included to
enrich the policy making.
Currently I am working as a senior lecturer in College of
Nursing at IUBAT. So I have interactions with hospitals for the clinical
practice of my students, which will help me to have access to collect data to
present the actual scenario here. I have also worked as a research assistant in
a renowned research organization, icddr,b- my experience from there is going to
make this research more successful.
I have my mentors from Canada who are experienced in
research and as reviewer. I may take their help if necessary to make it more
useful for the society as well as the country.
