Donor: Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters
Association (BGMEA)
Topic: Root Cause Analysis of low worker productivity & efficiency
in RMG industry of Bangladesh.
Background: RMG industry is the lifeline of Bangladeshi
economy. It is contributing to 70% of the total export of the country. Despite
its significant contribution, it is facing challenges in maintaining an average
productivity level. The level is approximately 20% less than competing countries.
Although many reasons have been identified in the previous researches conducted
with a few number of factories, it was not enough to visualize the root problem. With the increasing labor cost and other problems, there is no alternative to enhance
the productivity.
Method: Seven QC tools will be used to find the root cause
of the problem and at least 200 factories’ production process will be analyzed.
The period of the study will take two years to complete.
Expected Outcome: The researcher is expecting to portray the
root causes behind the low productivity and efficiency. The whole study will be
published after the successful completion of the Project and shared with the
BGMEA members and participant factories so that they can find out their process
lacking.
Research Experience: Currently, I am working as a Lecturer in
BUFT. I have conducted three researches which are published in different
indexed journals. I have one paper on the above topic, unfortunately it was
conducted with limited research scope. Besides, I am a six sigma yellow belt
certified quality expert. Previously. I
also worked in a garments factory for 1 year.
