To prevent political defections or floor crossing , it is commonly referred to as the anti-defection law which is mentioned in bangladesh constitution in Article 70. It was meant to prevent legislators elected on one political party’s ticket from shifting their allegiance to another. Its purpose was to bring about political stability.

According, Article 70(1) of Bangladesh Constitution

A person elected as a Member of Parliament at an election at which he was nominated as a candidate by a political party shall vacate his seat on two grounds

1) if he resigns from that party or

2) votes in Parliament against the party.”
