    • Introduction to CE 422:Water Resource Engineering II Lab

      Guideline for the courses

      • All the registered students for this course have to enroll in Moodle
      • Students will find all course materials from moodle 
      • All the students have to submit the soft copy of their "Assignment" in Moodle under the assignment section created here and for this,they will be graded here .
      • One discussion or feedback forum is created under each of the lecture.
      • Students have to give their feedback on these forum and marks will be given posted on Moodle. So the have keep themselves always active on Moodle.
      • All the quizes will be held on the face to face class.
      • The question pattern for the quizzes will be given below under each section of quize.
      • There are quize instruction forum under the sections students can discuss with each other regarding the exam.
      Course Educational Objectives: : 

          • To apply appropriate techniques for finding water requirement of crops and design of irrigation systems

          • To develop research capabilities on effective management of water resource

      Understand different soil parameters that are needed for irrigation purposes. (PLO2)

      • Lecture 1:DETERMINATION OF SOIL BULK DENSITY BY FIELD METHOD

        Objectives of this lecture:

        •   To determine the bulk density of soil.
        • To plot moisture content by weight and moisture content by volume and then determine the soil bulk density from the graph.

      • Lecture 2: Soil Suction Measurement with Tensiometer

        Objectives of this lecture:

                  1) Use of tensiometer to measure soil moisture tension.

        • 2) Measure the moisture content of the soil by weight.

          3) Plot the soil moisture characteristic curve (moisture content vs. suction).

      • Lecture 3: Determination of Soil Intake Characteristics using Cylinder Infiltrometer

        Objective of the lecture : 

        1) To familiarize with the field testing procedure.

        2) To plot accumulated depth Vs. time in a log-log paper and to find (a) the constant C, and (b) the exponent, n.

        3) To develop the equations for accumulated intake, average and instantaneous intake rates from the test data.

        4) To plot accumulated depth, average and instantaneous intake rate Vs. time in one plain graph paper

        Outcome : 

           Will learn how to calculate the intake rate of soil in field condition using cylindrical infiltrometer

      • Lecture 4: MEASUREMENT OF CANAL SEEPAGE LOSS BY PONDING METHOD

        Objectives of this lecture:

         1) To get acquainted with the field testing procedure

        2) To estimate the seepage loss in the test canal section

         3) Interpretation of the test results.

      • Lecture- 07: DESIGN OF A BRANCH CANAL IN AN IRRIGATION PROJECT

        Objectives of this lecture:

         To design a branch canal for irrigation purpose .

        At the end of this lecture, students will be able to

        • Learn to know about regime channel, free board, canal, branch canal, tertial canal etc.
        • Able to do necessary calculations applying lacy's approach for regime channel.
        •  Able to draw a branch canal profile .

        Objectives of this lecture:

        To measure the drawdown of a single well from an unconfined aquifer .

        Lecture Outcomes:

        At the end of this lecture, students will be able to

        • Learn about hydraulic gradient, water table, confined and unconfined aquifer, aquitard , drawdown , radius of influence etc.
        • Able to measure drawdown of a single well theoretically and practically 
        • Able to plot drawdown curve and compare .
