    Course Summary: The course "Environmental Issues in Real Estate" is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the intersection between real estate development, land use, and environmental considerations. As the global community increasingly recognizes the significance of environmental sustainability, real estate professionals must be equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate the complex landscape of environmental issues in the real estate industry.

  • Topic 1: Basic Understanding of Environment and Related Terminologies

    This topic includes: What is environment, Carrying capacity, Renewable and non-renewable resources, Ecological footprint, Carbon footprint, Public goods, Common pool resources, Sustainable development 

  • Topic 2: Water Supply System

    This topic includes:  Water supply system planning, World trend in water demand, Factors influencing per capita water demand, Fluctuation in rate of demand, Design period of water supply system planning, Urban water supply system planning, Water sources, Groundwater, Surface water and its collection system (intake), Rainwater harvesting, Water quality, Water treatment methods (coagulation & flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, disinfection), Water distribution system (gravity, pumping, combined)

  • Topic 3: Sewerage System

    This topic includes: Elements of sewerage system, Basic terminology (sewage, sludge, sullage, storm water, sewer, sewerage), Types of collection, Separate sewer system, Combined sewer system, Partially separate/ Partially combined sewer system 

  • Topic 4: Sanitation System

    This topic includes: Classification of sanitation systems, On-site sanitation system , Off-site sanitation system, Basic principles and features, Suitability of sanitation system, Global context of water access, Hygienic latrine, Types of on-site sanitation (Pit latrine and Pour flush latrine), Advantages and disadvantages of simple pit latrine, Water seal in pour flush latrine, Direct pit, Offset pit and Twin pit pour flush latrine, Advantages and disadvantages of pour flush latrine, Construction of pit, Septic tank, Fecal Sludge Management System (emptying, collection, transportation, treatment and disposal), Drying bed and composting of sludge
