This course (Power System Protection) is intended to provide the basic theory, principles and practices of power system protection. Techniques to analyze a power system under various symmetrical and unsymmetrical fault conditions will be covered alongside the selection of protection equipment. Different Circuit Breakers, Relaying schemes will be discussed for overcurrent, differential and distance protections. The course also covers the application of different switchgear devices in the protection of transformers, bus-bars, rotating electrical machines and power transmission lines. Thus, protection schemes must apply a very pragmatic and pessimistic approach to clearing system faults. The devices that are used to protect the power systems from faults are called protection devices.
