The objective of this course is to enable the students for achieving the basic knowledge about natural fiber, about commonly used natural fiber, such as Cotton, Jute, Silk, Wool; about mechanism of manufacturing and attain broad understanding of textiles natural fibers; different natural fibers textures and characteristics and so on. The content of this course is as follow:

Introducing the basic concept of fiber: (Contents: Definition and sources of Textile fibers and their essential properties, Classification of textile fibers, Comparison between natural and manmade fibers, Global fiber production and consumption)

Introduction to Cotton Fiber: (Contents: Geographical variations and global production, Cultivation and ginning, Chemical composition.)

Properties of Cotton Fiber : (Contents: Morphological properties, Physical and chemical properties and end uses.)

Jute Fiber: (Contents: Botanical variations, global production, cultivation and retting, Chemical composition, physical and chemical properties and end uses.)

Review on Mid Term and Preparatory Leave

Flax Fiber and Other Cellulosic Fibers: (Contents: Botanical variations, global production, cultivation and retting, Chemical composition and morphological properties, Physical and chemical properties and end uses, Brief discussion on Ramie, Hemp, Sisal and Abaca fibers, Major properties and end uses of these cellulosic fibers.)

Silk Fiber : (Contents: Chemistry of Fiber Manufacture, Fiber Production Method, Physical Properties, Chemical Properties, End Uses)

Wool Fiber and Properties of Wool Fiber: (Contents: Classification of sheep and types of wool, Shearing and fiber production, Chemical composition, Morphological properties, Physical and chemical properties and end uses.)

Other Protein Fibers: Contains: Brief discussion on Vicuna, Alpaca, Angora and Cashmere fibers, Properties and end uses of these protein fibers.
