Course Synopsis
This course is designed to provide a basic idea regarding the law of torts and consumer protection provisions applicable in Bangladesh. The law of torts, as well as the law of consumer protection, came from the notion of the common law. Although their applicability in Bangladesh cannot be ignored. These laws provide for remedies on civil wrongs made in day to day activities. Their usage will make our lives easier to deal with. The law of torts seeks remedies for defamation, negligence, mistake, malicious prosecution whereas consumer protection law gives remedies to the consumers. We will discuss these various provisions in this course. We would like to know all these loopholes and areas of correction in this arena after the successful completion of this course.Instructions/ Guidelines for the Students
All the students registered for this course have to enroll in BLC.
Students can find all the course materials from BLC and Google Classroom.
All the students have to submit the soft copy of their "Assignment" in BLC under the assignment section created here.
One discussion forum is created for each of the lecture. Students have to give their feedback on these forum.
Any announcement regarding the class will be posted on the Notice Board in BLC. So the students have to keep themselves always engaged in BLC.
All the quizzes and presentation will be held in BLC. All the classes will be held through Google Meet online. The class schedule will be followed according to the class routine. The announcement of class and the link of google meet of each class will be given in the messenger group of the Social Media before the class.
The assessment plan, the syllabus and the question pattern for the quizzes, mid-term exam and final exam have been given here in BLC for your scrutiny and better understanding. Students should go through it.
Course Objectives
The course titled 'Law of Tort and Consumer Protection' mainly focuses on various provisions of giving remedies to the claimants and consumers through the law applicable in Bangladesh although the remedies of tort law are based on various maxims and case laws. The objectives of this course are as follows:
- To know the nature and scope of the law of tort and consumer protection.
- To know the various remedies provided by these laws.
- To know all the essential matters while seeking reliefs in a suit for claiming remedy.
- To know the bar of using such laws.
