    About Chemistry lab  :

    This chemistry lab mainly focused on inorganic chemistry. This course provides to increase the ability to perform accurate quantitative measurements with an understanding of the theory and use of contemporary chemical instrumentation, interpret experimental results, perform calculations on these results and draw reasonable, accurate conclusions. This course will also provide the basic concept of Solution, Acid-Base Titration, Redox Titration, Determination of Different metal, Hardness of Water. Students obtaining knowledge and understanding of the issues of safety regulations, ethics and societal issues in the use of chemicals in their laboratory work. More over this course will cover moderate are of Inorganic Quantitative Analysis, Which is very important to analysis chemical in different industrial aspect.

    Lecture one

    Basic Information about Chemistry lab

    Course rationale :

    These courses reflect curriculum for excellence for values, purposes, and principles. This course provides to increase the ability to perform accurate quantitative measurements with an understanding of the theory and use of contemporary chemical instrumentation, interpret experimental results, perform calculations on these results and draw reasonable, accurate conclusions. This course will also provide the basic concept of Solution, Acid-Base Titration, Redox Titration, Determination of Different metal, Hardness of Water. Students obtain knowledge and understanding of the issues of safety regulations, ethics, and societal issues in using chemicals in their laboratory work. Moreover, this course will cover moderate are of Inorganic Quantitative Analysis, Which is very important to analyze chemicals in different industrial aspects.

    Course Objectives :

    1. Able to apply their knowledge to analysis chemical.
    2. Engineering  department students are using chemistry practical knowledge their own existing field to analysis different raw-material.
    3. Calculate molarities / Normality of a solution starting with pure solute or with a concentrated solution as well as explain how to prepare a solution of a given molarities/ Normality.
    4. Explain the difference between solubility and dissociation in water and apply this knowledge to acids, bases, and salts.
    5. Identify weak and strong acids and bases and insoluble compounds using dissociation and solubility rules.
    6. Identify redox reactions including identifying the oxidation, reduction, oxidation agent, and reducing agent.
    7. Calculate oxidation numbers and balance redox reactions.

     

    List of Experiments :

    1.    Preparation of Standard Solution.

    2.    Standardization of Hydrochloric Acid solution by the standard Sodium Carbonate solution.

    3.    Standardization of Sodium Hydroxide solution by the standard Hydrochloric Acid solution.

    4.    Standardization of Sodium Hydroxide solution by the standard Oxalic Acid solution.

    5.    Standardization of Potassium Permanganate solution by the standard Oxalic Acid solution.

    6.    Determination of ferrous iron from ferrous salt solution by the standard potassium permanganate solution. (Conc. of KMnO4 solution 0.1 N).

    7.    Determination of hardness of the supplied sample water.

    8.    Determination of ferrous iron by the standard Potassium dichromate solution.

    9.    Standardization of Sodium Thiosulphate solution by the standard Potassium Dichromate solution.

    10.Determination of Copper from the given solution by the standard thiosulphate solution.

    The primary objective of this class is to learn the basic concepts of analytical chemistry and to know various apparatuses and their uses as well.

    Objectives: 

    The main objective of this experiment to determine the concentration of NaOH by a standard oxalic acid solution.

    Determination of ferrous iron from ferrous salt solution by the standard potassium permanganate solution.


    Objectives :

    1. To determine the amount of solute ( ferrous iron ) from a supplied sample solution.

    2. To get enough knowledge about the Redox reaction.

     Determination of hardness of the supplied sample water.


    Objectives : 

    1. To quantitatively determine the total hardness of a supplied sample water by using EDTA solution.
    2.To gain some basic analytical knowledge through analysis of water samples.
    3.To become familiar with technology such as ppm and apply techniques learned from volumetric analysis to basic environmental analysis.
