    Welcome to the class of Nutrition Education and Communication. The course introduces students to the science of nutrition, its application in health   education process. The students will learn about nutrition education definition,  rationale, impact, role of nutrition educator and nutrition services, and nutritional  problems of the population  . This course aims at introducing students to the theories and skills necessary to design a nutrition education program .As a nutrition professional, you will be required to communicate a wide range of nutrition messages to the public ,organizations and other professionals. This course will enable you to use information and skills  to effectively  communicate a nutrition message to a  variety of media such as social media electronic media and print media. So i hope this course will be interesting and it will make you a good communicator


    Nutrition Education & Communication

    Rationale: 

    The importance of nutrition education as a means for improving nutrition of the community in the developing countries has increased rapidly during the recent past. Lack of awareness about the dietary requirements and nutritive value of different food is the main cause for prevailing malnutrition among  children, pregnant women, lactating mother and other vulnerable sections of the community. The nutrition message should be communicated to the public in a way which can be understood by them. Thus a course in nutrition education and communication can contribute to a healthy society


    Course Objectives:

    1) Explain how a health educator can help people with nutritional problems related to certain health conditions

    2) List the need, rationale and the meaning for Nutrition education.

    3)  Identify the behavioral theories, and how it's important to build theoretical education program

    4)  List all nutrition educational needs of different patients populations

    5) Develop practical skills in communicating nutrition information to target audiences via a range of media

    6)  Develop communication skills; identify personal habits and choices that promote well being.

    7 ) Identify barriers of communication and find out ways to control them

    8) Develop strategies to reach nutritional programs to all vulnerable segment of the population
