Welcome to the Course "Principles of Housing and Land Development"
Course Summary:
This is an introductory course of Housing. This course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the basic concepts and principles related to housing and land development. Housing is a fundamental human need and plays a critical role in shaping individual well-being and community development. The course aims to provide a holistic perspective on the various aspects of housing, including its market, policies, construction, management, financing and legal aspects. By studying the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complex landscape of housing and contribute positively to the housing and land development sector.
The course will cover the following topics: Basic concept of housing, Influence of lifestyle and lifecycle on housing choice, Demand and supply dynamics of housing, Role of government actors in housing, Low-income housing and housing affordability, Techniques for providing affordable housing, Rules and regulations concerning housing.

Students will form a group of four/ five members and visit a slum. They will observe the condition of housing and other facilities in those low-income settlements. They will survey the slum residents through Focus Group Discussions or one-to-one interviews. They will present their findings from the visit through a PowerPoint slide in the classroom and share their experiences.
