Course rationale:
Technical know-how of pharmaceutical dosage forms is the main concerns of Pharmaceutical Technology. This study integrates scientific knowledge that are critical in the development and manufacturing of new drugs, handling of process and state of the art facilities. The purposes of learning pharmaceutical Technology are developing the ability to apply the pharmaceutical knowledge of excipients, pre-formulation studies, biopharmaceutics & pharmacokinetics, stability evaluation in the formulation of pharmaceutical products and drug delivery systems.
Course objective:
This subject explain the application, advantage, disadvantages, mechanism of API & excipients, pre-formulation, formulation, incompatibilities and manufacturing of different types of liquid (solution, suspension and emulsion) and semisolid (Cream, ointment, suppository etc.) dosage forms. It also identify the common problems occurred during manufacturing and in-process quality control. Finding out the best technology and designing new formula is also the objective of this course.
Course Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, the
student will be able to-
1. Explain
the factors affecting physical and chemical properties of liquid and semisolid
dosage forms.
2. Develop basic knowledge on the
formulation and manufacturing of solution, suspension, emulsion, cream, ointment,
and suppository.
3. Thinking of the comparison between
different types of liquid and semisolid dosage forms
4. Evaluate the finished products as
well as during in-process control of liquid and semi solid dosage forms.
5. Create new formula of liquid and
semi solid dosage forms with available excipients with affordable price.
6. Identify the critical steps of
formulation, processing and evaluation of liquid and semi solid dosage forms.
7. Justify the development of the
formula, manufacturing method
