1.  How do you handle the situation when a problem arises due to barriers to communication?

Ans.: Usually I handle the situation when a problem arises due to barriers to communication such as,

Ø  checking whether it is a good time and place to communicate with the person.

Ø  being clear and using language that the person understands.

Ø  communicating one thing at a time.

Ø  respecting a person's desire to not communicate.

Ø  checking that the person has understood you correctly.

2. What do you mean by the physiological, psychological and cultural barriers?

Ans.: There are three common barriers. They are,

• Physical

• Psychological

• Cultural

Physiological Barrier:

• Deafness or hearing loss

• Blindness or impaired vision

• Aphasia or speech disabilities

 Psychological Barrier:

The psychological state of the communicators will influence how the message is sent, received and perceived.

For example, if someone is stressed they may be preoccupied by personal concerns and not as receptive to the message as if they were not stressed.

Psychological barriers are often caused by:

• Attitudes

• Personality

Cultural Barrier:

 • Each cultural group has beliefs and practices regarding health and illness.

• Some cultures believe the body needs balance-if the body is cold, they eat hot foods.

• Some cultures believe illness is due to demons and evil.

• Some cultures believe health is a reward from God, and illness is punishment from God.
