Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is the procedure for settling disputes without litigation, such as arbitration, mediation, or negotiation. ADR procedures are usually less costly and more expeditious. They are increasingly being utilized in disputes that would otherwise result in litigation, including high-profile labor disputes, divorce actions, and personal injury claims.

## NEED FOR ADR

On account of arrears of pending cases and experience litigations compel to search for alternative means. The present days crumbling administration of justice is also a factor which makes alternative dispute resolution acceptable. At present, there are over 2.5 crore cases pending in various courts all over the country. In a democracy, this situation may lead to the failure of the administration of justice.
