Literary theory is the body of ideas and methods used in the reading and studying of literature. It formulates the relationship between author and work. I have learned some important literary theories from my previous class. Five important literary theories are and there characteristics are

1. Russian Formalism:

* Language is used to create reality of fact.

* Differentiates between form and Content.

* Accords importance to the fabric of the literary text.

2. New Criticism:

* Focuses on the text and argued that literary language is connotative.

* No separation of form and content.

* Considers a text self-contained and autonomous.

3. Structuralism:

* It can be related it with text and make study of text.

* System of recurrent patterns or motifs.

* Studied the underlying structure.

4 Post- Structuralism:

* It is a response of structuralism.

* The rejection of the self-sufficiency of the structures.

* Study must be done on the base of knowledge .

5. Deconstruction:

* Finds ways that the features of a literary work contradict each other.

* Ignores historical factors.

* May also lead to relativism.
