Bangladesh is one of the most disaster-prone nations in the world. Over the decade's major cyclones, floods that were some of the worst in recorded history have devastated settlements, destroyed lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands. The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has been beside Bangladeshis throughout. The Cyclone Preparedness Program is a unique institutional arrangement for community preparedness created to mitigate the challenges of catastrophic cyclones that frequently hit the Bangladesh coast. This is a joint program of the Government of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Red Crescent Society that provides a robust early warning system for the coastal population of 13 districts.
