I think the desire to innovate greatly stimulates the research incentive. Innovation and research go hand by hand. Innovative ideas in research allow to solve difficult problems that later on can find practical applications in different branches of science, which in itself represents innovation. Innovation, invention and research are the three main ingredients for the advancement of science and technology.
