An Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) actively blocks or prevents malicious traffic, while a honeypot is a decoy system used to lure attackers and study their behavior. IPS is a proactive approach to network security, while honeypots are more reactive and used as a detection tool. IPS is widely deployed for enterprise network security, while honeypots are used primarily for research and learning purposes.
