Pakistan and Bangladesh have complex histories. Both were part of British India until 1947 when the region gained independence. Pakistan was created as a separate state for Muslims, comprising West and East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). In 1971, Bangladesh became independent after a war of liberation, leading to the establishment of the sovereign state of Bangladesh. Since then, the two countries have followed separate paths of development.
