Pakistan and Bangladesh were both part of British India until 1947 when the Indian subcontinent gained independence. Following independence, Pakistan was created as a separate state for Muslims, comprising West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). In 1971, Bangladesh gained independence after a war with West Pakistan, becoming a separate and sovereign nation. Since then, Pakistan and Bangladesh have pursued distinct political paths while sharing historical and cultural ties.
