Scanning: To find specific information or keywords in a text. You move your eyes quickly over the text, looking for particular words, dates, numbers, or facts. You don’t read everything in detail but focus only on the information you're seeking. When you know what specific information you need, such as searching for a name in a list, a phone number, or a fact in a long passage.

Skimming: To get the general idea or gist of a text. You read key parts like headings, subheadings, topic sentences, and summaries while glancing through the rest of the content. This allows you to grasp the main ideas without reading everything in detail. When you want an overview of a book, article, or report to understand its general message or decide if it’s worth reading more closely.
