Scanning:

Scanning is a reading technique where you look for specific information within a text without reading everything. You move quickly through the text, focusing on particular keywords, numbers, or details to find what you need.

Skimming is a reading technique used to get the overall sense or main idea of a text quickly. Instead of reading every word, you focus on headlines, subheadings, and the first sentences of paragraphs to understand the general theme or key points.

Examples of Scanning

Looking for the date of an event in a newsletter.  You quickly scan the text, looking for numbers or words related to dates 


**Example 2**:  

- **Task**: Finding a specific term or definition in a glossary.  

- **How**: You scan the list of terms, bypassing most of the text until you locate the exact word you're searching for.

**Example 1**:  

- **Task**: Getting an overview of an article on climate change.  

- **How**: You read the title, subheadings, and the first few sentences of each paragraph to understand the general points being made.


**Example 2**:  

- **Task**: Reviewing a long report to understand its main arguments.  

- **How**: You skim through the introduction, conclusion, and key headings to capture the report’s overall findings without diving into every detail.
