Re: Forum Discussion about pros and cons of Conventional File Processing System
1. Backup:
It is possible to take faster and automatic back-up of database stored in files of computer-based systems
2. Compactness:
It is possible to store data compactly.
3. Data Retrieval:
Computer-based systems provide enhanced data retrieval techniques to retrieve data stored in files in easy and efficient way.
4. Editing:
It is easy to edit any information stored in computers in form of files.
5. Remote Access:
In computer-based systems,it is possible to access data remotely.
6. Sharing:
Data stored in files of computer-based systems ca be shared among multiple users at a same time.
Disadvantage
1. Data Redundancy:
It is possible that the same information may be duplicated in different files.this leads to data redundancy results in memory wastage.

Re: Forum Discussion about pros and cons of Conventional File Processing System
Advantages
Reduced data redundancy. Reduced updating errors and increased consistency. Greater data integrity and independence from applications programsI. improved data access to users through use of host and query languages. Improved data security. Reduced data entry, storage, and retrieval costs. Facilitated development of new applications program.
Disadvantages
Database systems are complex, difficult, and time-consuming to design. Substantial hardware and software start-up costs. Damage to database affects virtually all applications programs. Extensive conversion costs in moving form a file-based system to a database system. Initial training required for all programmers and users

4. Editing:
It is easy to edit any information stored in computers in form of files.
Specific application programs or editing software can be used for this purpose.
5. Remote Access:
In computer-based systems,it is possible to access data remotely.
so,to access data it is not necessary for a user to remain present at location where these data are kept.
6. Sharing:
Data stored in files of computer-based systems ca be shared among multiple users at a same time.
*Disadvantage of File-oriented system:
1. Data Redundancy:
It is possible that the same information may be duplicated in different files.this leads to data redundancy results in memory wastage.
2. Data Inconsistency:
Because of data redundancy,it is possible that data may not be in consistent state.
3. Difficulty in Accessing Data:
Accessing data is not convenient and efficient in file processing system.
4. Limited Data Sharing:
Data are scattered in various files.also different files may have different formats and these files may be stored in different folders may be of different departments.
So, due to this data isolation, it is difficult to share data among different applications.
5. Integrity Problems:
Data integrity means that the data contained in the database in both correct and consistent.for this purpose the data stored in database must satisfy correct and constraints.
6. Atomicity Problems:
Any operation on database must be atomic.
this means, it must happen in its entirely or not at all.

Re: Forum Discussion about pros and cons of Conventional File Processing System
Should be able to get the data any point in time latter
Should be able to add details to it whenever required
Should be able to modify stored information, as needed
Should also be able to delete them
In the traditional approach, before to computer, all pieces of information were stored in papers. When we need information, we used to search through the papers. If we know a particular date or category of information we are searching for, we go to that particular session in the papers. When we want to update or delete some data, we search for it and modify them or strike off them. If the data is limited, then all these tasks are easy. Imagine library information or information about a student in school, or a banking system! How do we search for single required data in papers? It is a never-ending task! Yes, Computers solved our problems.

computer systems provide functionalities to serve this purpose.it is also possibl hee to develop specific application program for this purposes
Advantage:
1. Privacy: - Limited access means privacy of data.
2. Easy access to data – Database systems manages data in such a way so that the data is easily accessible with fast response times.
3. Flexible: - Database systems are more flexible than file processing systems.
Disadvantages:
1. Program-Data Dependence. File descriptions are stored within each application program that accesses a given file.
2. Excessive Program Maintenance. The preceding factors create a heavy program maintenance load
