    Course Description

    The course is designed to help the students develop their practical skills for print Media. It will be fully lab based. This main focus of this course is to prepare the students practically for information gathering, news writing, editing and page makeup skills. The course will also focus on the scope, importance and techniques of writing and editing; news table, news room, sources of copies, preparation of schedule and treatment.

    Course Objectives

    Students will be able to publish a newspaper. They can get a complete idea about print media. They will be able to cope up with print media offices and their atmosphere, activities and responsibilities through lab work.

  • INTRODUCTORY NOTE FROM INSTRUCTOR


    I welcome you all to the course Print Media Lab. This course will be based on practical work and occasion lectures. As per the assessment style, there will be 3 quizzes, assignment, presentation, attendance, Mid-term and Final examinations under the 100 marks (3 credit). Apart from class work, there will also be some home works to sharpen the skills required to complete the course. I am available during office time for any queries related to the course.   • Lesson 01

    Introduction to Print Media


    Lesson objectives

    This will give an overview of print media and its natures. This will attempt to understand how print media works and what is the difference between print and online. It will also give an introduction to print media lab activities. 

    Lesson Outcome

    After the lecture, the students will have deeper understanding about print media and its natures. They will be able to explain how print media works and what is the difference between print and online. The students will also have an introduction to print media lab activities. 


  • Lesson 02

    IMPROVING BANGLA TYPING SKILLS


    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to improve and hone the skills of Bangla typing skills including in Bijoy as necessary for different print media platforms. This will focus on smooth and fast  but accurate typing in Bangla using different prominent software.

    Outcome

    After the lesson, the students are expected to be able to type Bangla in desktop computers, laptop and mobile. They will have the ability to complete typing of different news and other types of print media contents in Bangla. Their typing will be fast and accurate.

  • Lesson 03

    Objective

    Translating News Contents from English to Bangla 


    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to further improve translation from English to Bangla. It will also hone the skills of Bangla typing skills including in Bijoy as necessary for different print media platforms. This will focus on functional translation for news stories .

    Outcome

    After the lesson, the students are expected to be able to skillfully translate English news into Bangla using desktop computers, laptop and mobile. They will have the ability to complete typing of different news and other types of print media contents in Bangla. Their translation will be fast and accurate.


  • Lesson 5

    Understanding Print Media Reports


    Lesson Objective

    This lesson is to make students understand how print newspaper reports differ those in television media, how to generate news ideas for print media, write in-depth stories  and how to organize the stories. 

    Lesson Outcome

    After the lesson, the students should be able to plan news stories for print, gather information and write in-depth stories. They should well organize the stories using appropriate language.

    Typography


    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to discuss typography and its use in print media. After the discussion, it will make students in to practical work to improve their skills in the subject.

    After the lesson, the students are expected to be able to understand typography and its use in print media. They will have the ability to apply typography knowledge and skills in print media production.

    Copy Editing and Word Economy


    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to discuss copy editing and word economy and its use in print media. After the discussion, it will make students in to practical work to improve their skills in the subject.

    Page Make-Up


    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to discuss page make-up and its use in print media. After the discussion, it will make students in to practical work to improve their skills in the subject.

    After the lesson, the students are expected to be able to understand page make-up and its use in print media. They will have the ability to apply page make-up knowledge and skills in print media production.

    Layout and Design


    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to discuss layout and design and its use in print media. After the discussion, it will make students in to practical work to improve their skills in the subject.

    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to discuss headline writing and its use in print media. After the discussion, it will make students in to practical work to improve their skills in the subject.

    Objective

    This lesson will attempt to discuss proof read and its use in print media. After the discussion, it will make students in to practical work to improve their skills in the subject.

  • Special Session 

    with 

    A Graphic Design Editor



    Objective

    The special class aims to create an opportunity to directly interact with an industry expert. In this session, a newspaper design expert from the industry will deliver lecture and interact with students on the issues. The interaction will focus on newspaper layout design, infographics and different design tools.

    Outcome

    After the session, the students are expected to have an idea about practical field of this industry, skills required and the future challenges. They will have basic knowledge about newspaper layout design and technology.
