    Course Description

    The course is designed to help the students develop their both theoretical and practical knowledge on radio journalism. They will know different tools and features of radio technology and apply them for information gathering and news producing in this platform. 

    Course Objectives

    At the end of the course, the students will be able to develop necessary skills needed to do journalism for radio. They will know how to use and apply different radio technology for the purpose of radio journalism. They will understand differences between radio and other platforms of journalism, and thus apply the skills as needed for successful radio news production and presentation.


    Instructor's Note 


    I welcome you all to the course Radio Journalism. This is a course to develop journalistic skills for radio platform. For this course, you have to assume that you are a working radio journalist. What radio journalists do for news will be our activities in this course. We will learn what are the differences between radio and other platforms. We also learn what skills are needed and what techniques are applied to gather information for radio. We will also learn how to organize information and produce news stories and other programmes.     Lesson 01

    What is Radio Journalism



    Lesson Objective

    The lesson aims to introduce the students to radio journalism. It will differentiate between different media platforms and radio. It will also discuss some of basics of radio journalism to give students some introductory concepts of this journalistic format.

    Lesson outcome

    After the lesson, the students will be expected to have an introductory and basic knowledge about radio journalism and its differences with other media. They will also expect to articulate some essential features of radio journalism.

    Lesson 02

    History of Radio Journalism


    Lesson Objective

    The lesson aims to discuss origin and development of radio  and radio journalism. This will explore the periods WW1 and WW2. The lesson will discuss development of radio journalism and emergence of private stations in Bangladesh. This will also discuss the contribution of radio programmes during the War of Liberation of Bangladesh. 

    Lesson outcome

    At the end of the lesson, the students will expect have a elaborate knowledge about the development of radio journalism. They will also articulate the history of radio broadcast in Bangladesh. They will also be able to know about different radio programmes which played a significant role in Bangladesh's Liberation War.

    Lesson 3

    Writing Radio Scripts


    Lesson objective

    The lesson is aimed at teaching principles of radio writing. This will discuss the differences between newspapers and radio broadcast in writing. The lesson will explore the ways to write effective radio scripts following essential principles and techniques. 

    Lesson outcome

    At the end of the lesson, the students will be able understand the differences between written texts and conversational style of language. They will be expected to write scripts, especially news stories, for radio reports and bulletin.

        Lesson 4

        Reporting for Radio


        Objective:

        The lesson will discuss about the techniques of reporting for radio. It will show how to write script for a radio report and presentation style. The lesson will also time, languages and tools of radio report.   

        Outcome

        At the end of the lesson, the students will understand how to collect information, prepare and write a report for radio. The students will learn the management of time in report and use of appropriate words.

      • Radio Interview

        Lesson 05

        Interview for Radio




        Objective:

        The lesson will discuss about the interview on radio. It will explore the techniques and topics of radio interview. The lesson will refer to different radio interviews and discuss them in the class. This will also make students take interviews. 

        Outcome:
        After the lesson, the students know the necessary skills needed to for radio interviews. They can also host radio interviews.
