    • Short Profile  of Professor Dr. A.K.M. Fazlul Haque


      Professor Dr. A.K.M. Fazlul Haque is a highly accomplished scholar and researcher in the field of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, as well as Computer Science and Engineering. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and his M.Sc. Engineering in Electrical, System Design and Technology from the University of Applied Sciences, Darmstadt, Germany. He also served as a visiting scholar at the University of Delaware, USA.

      Currently, Professor Haque is the Director of Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and a Professor at the Department of Information and Communication Engineering at Daffodil International University. He has authored over 100 referred journal and conference papers, and his research interests revolve around Telemedicine, Signal Processing, Computer Networking, and Data Communication.

      Professor Haque is a member of several professional societies and has served on the editorial boards of several international journals. He has also served as a program committee member for several international conferences. Prof. Haque is an ardent advocate of diversity and inclusivity in academia and has worked tirelessly to promote these values in his own research group and beyond.

      Professor Haque has received numerous accolades related to teaching, research, and supporting student activities. He has supervised over 500 B.Sc. / M.Sc. thesis at Daffodil International University over the past years, and is currently supervising four PhD students. His expertise in networking is evident from his 20 years of experience as a Cisco Networking CCNA instructor.

      As an esteemed member of various professional societies, Professor Haque is a fellow of the Bangladesh Computer Society, Senior Member of IEEE, and a life member of Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) and Bangladesh Electronic Society. He is also a member of the German Telecommunication Engineers. He has given numerous invited talks and tutorials in several conferences, seminars, and workshops. Additionally, he is enlisted as an elite reviewer of Elsevier, IEEE Access, Springer, Publons, PLOS, etc.

      Professor Haque is an active member of the Quality Assurance Unit and Research and Innovation Team, The Association of University of Asia and Pacific, and the International Society for Development and Sustainability. Prof. Haque has achieved IEEE CS Bangladesh Academic and Research Excellence Award.  He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of education and research with the 'Most Outstanding Professor' award from the world education congress.

      Professor Haque is an auditor for the Bangladesh Accreditation Council and a trainer at the University Grants Commission (UGC), Bangladesh. He is an active member of the Quality Assurance Committee, nominated by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, and serves as an expert member of the Discipline-Specific Committee of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council.

    • Rationale: This course is to provide students with an overview of the concepts and fundamentals of data communication and computer networks and provides the student with fundamental knowledge of the various aspects of computer networking and enables students to appreciate recent developments in the area. Topics to be covered include: data communication concepts and techniques in a layered network architecture, communications switching and routing, types of communication, network congestion, network topologies, network configuration and management, network model components, layered network models (OSI reference model, TCP/IP networking architecture) and their protocols, various types of networks (LAN, MAN, WAN and Wireless networks) , routing  protocols, bridges, routers and gateways; network naming and addressing; and local and remote procedures. On completion of the course, the student should be able in part to design, implement and maintain a typical computer network (LAN).

       

      Objective:   At the end of the course, the students will be able to:

      1. Build an understanding of the fundamental concepts of computer networking.

      2. Familiarize the student with the basic taxonomy and terminology of the computer networking area.

      3. Introduce the student to advanced networking concepts, preparing the student for entry advanced courses in computer networking.

      4. Allow the student to gain expertise in some specific areas of networking such as the design and maintenance of individual networks.
