Gender based violence and its impact:
Gender-based violence refers to any type of harm that is perpetrated against a person or group of people because of their factual or perceived sex, gender, sexual orientation or or gender identity.
Causes :Gender based violence can be in the form of-
- Child marriage.
- Female genital mutilation.
- Honour killings.
- Trafficking for sex or slavery.
- Intimate partner violence.
- Physical punishment.
- Social norms.
- Low level of women's empowerment.
- Lack of social support.
- Socio-ecnomic inequality.
Type :
- Physical violence.
- Verbal violence.
- Psychological violence.
- Sexual violence.
- Socio-economic violence .
- Domestic violence.
The things we can do about Gender-Based Violence:
- Educate ourselves and others about GBV. The first line of prevention is education.
- Use our voice on social media to bring awareness to GBV. Using social media can help us connect to others outside our normal social circles. .
- Sponsor a woman survivor of conflict and war.
