Jurisdiction is one of the first matters to consider when a suit is presented before a court because if it is found that the suit does not fit to the jurisdiction of the court, then the court can not accept or try the suit even if there is no objection about the jurisdiction by any party. Jurisdiction is the power of a court predetermined by the government or by law.


jurisdiction of Civil Court can be classified in the following main categories:


1. Subjective jurisdiction

2. Territorial jurisdiction

3. Pecuniary jurisdiction


There shall be following classes of Civil Courts namely:


 (a) the Court of the District Judge.

(b) the Court of the Additional District Judge

(c) the Court of the Joint District Judge

(d) the Court of the Senior Assistant Judge

(e) the Court of the Assistant Judge.
