  1. Maternity leave: A woman is entitled to 26 weeks of paid maternity leave. This can be taken before or after delivery, but must be taken in a single stretch. If a woman has already had two or more children, the entitlement is reduced to 12 weeks.

  2. Maternity leave for adopting mothers: An adopting mother is entitled to 12 weeks of maternity leave from the date of adoption.

  3. Work from home: Employers are required to provide work-from-home facilities to a woman if the nature of her work allows for it. This option can be availed of after the expiry of the 26-week leave period.

  4. Crèche facilities: Employers with 50 or more employees are required to provide crèche facilities within a prescribed distance. Women are entitled to four visits to the crèche per day.

  5. Nursing breaks: Women are entitled to nursing breaks to breastfeed their child for up to 15 months after delivery. These breaks can be availed of twice during work hours.

  6. Maternity Benefit Fund: Employers are required to contribute to a Maternity Benefit Fund for the benefit of women employees.

  7. Prohibition of discrimination: Employers are prohibited from discriminating against women employees on the grounds of pregnancy or maternity.

These provisions provide for better maternity benefits to working women and help them balance their work and family responsibilities.
