Workplace safety and security has long been seen as a key source of concern in every country. With the pace of time and need, Bangladesh has enacted and modified its legal instruments to safeguard their workers. However, recent catastrophic industrial occurrences have exposed the flaws in labour laws that protect workers' rights, as well as the apparent leniency of implementation of those laws in workplaces. A study by ILO reveals that over 11,000 workers die in fatal accidents each year, with another 24,500 dying from work-related ailments in Bangladesh. A further 8 million workers are anticipated to be injured at work, with many of these accidents resulting in permanent disability. Most occupational deaths and injuries are entirely preventable, and could be avoided if safety measures are proactively implemented at workplace.
