  • The Labor Rules stipulates the provisions concerning occupational health and hygiene in section 51 to 60. These provisions address the regulations on cleanliness, ventilation and temperature, dust and fume, disposal of wastes and effluents, overcrowding, lighting, drinking water, latrines and urinals, and dustbin and spittoon. Safety related provisions are also stipulated in the section 61 to 78, addressing fire safety, fencing of machinery, work on or near machinery in motion, handling of cranes and lifting machinery, hoist, and lifts etc.



Section 51 :Cleanliness Every establishment shall be kept clean and free from 


effluvia arising from any drain, privy or any other nuisance, and in particular- 


(a) the dirt and refuge shall be removed daily by sweeping in a suitable 


manner from the floors, work-rooms, staircases and passages of theregister prescribed by rules. 


Section52 Ventilation and Temperature :Effective measures shallbe undertaken in every establishment for Maintaining ventilation and the temperature every such room shall be kept reasonable condition of comfort prevent injury of helath


Section53 Dust and Fume: Dust, fume or other impurity which is injurious to helath arising due to manufacturing process must be diverted by effective measures to prevent dust.


Section 54 :Disposal of wastes and Effluents:effective measures shall be made in every fact


Section 55: Artificial Humidification :in every establishment in which the humidity of the air is artificially increased the water used for the purpose shall be taken in public supply or other source of drinking water 


Section 56 overcrowding :every worker employed in a work room at least 9.5 cubic meter of space for every worker employed in a workroom.


Section 57 lightning :every establishment all glazed windows and skylights used for lighting of the work room and also provided suitable Lighting, natural or artificial or both.


Section 58 provides Drinking Water: in every establishment wherein more than 250 workers are ordinarily employed, provision shall be made for cooling the drinking water during the hot weather.


Section 59 provides latrines and urinals: in every establishment provide sufficient latrines must separated from male and female etc.
